Elon Musk is a man who needs no introduction. The South African-born entrepreneur is behind some of the biggest and baddest companies of today, including PayPal, Tesla and SpaceX. As one of the richest and most powerful men in the world, you’d assume he is more than secure in the decisions he makes.

He’s not.

Like all of us, fear is a real thing to Musk, as is risk. Despite his net worth – which at the time of writing, was approximately $20.8 billion – financial failure is a real thing. In fact, in the beginning SpaceX only had enough funding to cover three rocket launches. After the first three failed, Musk was broke. While some would have walked away, Musk believed in the vision and scrambled to secure money to float a fourth launch. That fourth launch was ultimately successful.

He’s encountered his share of naysayers over the years. He knows the wrong decision could cripple him professionally. He has everything to lose. Yet he continues to push boundaries and would be considered by many as one of the most fearless businesspeople of today.
